    1. The strategy I implemented in my classroom was scaffolding children's learning. I think this particular strategy is important so we can provide different levels of support and feedback to meet everyone's needs. Some ways I use this strategy is by providing hints, offering answers and encouraging my students to use all the resources we have talked about in class. Today during calendar time, I used my equity sticks and called on a student. The question was "if today is Tuesday, what is tomorrow"? The student did not know the answer so I used the scaffolding learning method. I asked him "lets use our resources to find out how to solve the answer". He said "sing the song!" We all sang the days of the week song to solve the answer. I always want to provide support for my students to figure out answers on their own. They will become more confident in themselves by teaching this way versus always giving the answer to a student.

  2. The strategy that I decided to implement was making learning in a meaningful way. As I was looking through my notes from the training I realize that this strategy is something that I always do. But as I introduced my new theme this morning I decided to implement the strategy and a more conscious way. Today I introduced the theme of animals and as I did I demonstrated picture cards of many different kinds animals. I had asked the children if they knew the name of the animal and if so had they ever seen one of these animals. I try to ask questions that linked their experiences to new concepts. The children were eager and curious to find out about animals some of the children had some kind of experiences with the names and shared where they had seen the animals. The hands-on activities were provided during center time. As the children worked on these activities they had more questions and I had also questions for them. there were plenty of back-and-forth conversations that made learning meaningful. I realize that today I did not relate previous knowledge since this was a new theme, however tomorrow as we talk about animals i will be able to relate prior knowledge and link that knowledge to new concepts.

    1. I liked that you reflected on what you could have done differently. After this training I had to stop and think about how I can introduce the new theme.

    2. I love to introduce a new theme or skill. Sometimes I have to remember of an observer that once told me, "less is more." Meaning that I was going over so much at once instead of maybe one, or two things, and making sure they got it then move on.

    3. Implementing the strategy "meaningful way" is one of my favorites. It helps the students get engaged with the activity or lesson on a deeper level. l love hearing the input students have when the lesson has been taught in a meaningful manner.

  3. The strategy I decided to implement is the scientific method. As I introduce farm and ocean animals this week I gave each student one farm animal and one ocean animal. I had them observe the animals quietly. After a couple of minutes of observing the animals we all discussed in a whole group about our animals. Once we discussed I asked each child individualy about switching the farm and the ocean animals habitat. For example," What would happen if a shark lived in a farm? What would happen to the cow if it lived in the ocean?" I received different answers some were over the top and some were really interesting. I would have never thought of using the scientific method in other ways.

    1. I like that activity I just think sometime we might over think how to implement these strategies. Sometimes when we least expect it we naturally are implement these 3 strategies that were spoken of during our professional development.

    2. That is a great idea Dion! I like that you allowed the students to think about the scientific method is many ways. Im sure your class loved discussing animals as a whole group.
